Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council Ali Larijani said Thursday that holding presidential elections in Syria is considered as an important and great victory to Syria, as government and people, and to all Islamic peoples in the region.
“This victory will fall as desperation and frustration in the hearts of Zionists and will consolidate factors of security and stability in the region, Larijani said in a telephone call with Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, affirming that the Iranian people stand by their Syrian counterpart.
Larijani congratulated the Syrian people on the success of elections and the winning of Dr. Bashar al-Assad in a new presidential term.
Al-Laham, for his part, appreciated Iran’s support to Syria, affirming this victory represents a great victory to resistance axis and carries several messages to the Zionist entity.
Iranian Foreign Ministry welcomes outcomes of presidential elections
In a relevant context, Tehran welcomed results of the presidential elections in Syria with President al-Assad’s winning a new constitutional term, appreciating the democratic feature of the voting.
“Tehran expressed respect for the democratic principles in Syria and welcomed the multiple characteristic of the presidential elections, affirming importance of respecting the Syrians’ voting as they are the only ones who decide their political future,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The statement underlined that the electoral process is an indication to a best era of stability and national unity in Syria.
Abadi: Syrian people’s miracle a lesson for the US
For his part, Iranian Army’s Chief of Staff Fairouz Abadi affirmed that “the miracle achieved by the Syrian people through their participation in the presidential elections has to be an important lesson to the US and supporters of terrorism.”
Abadi, in a statement, congratulated President Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian people on this great victory, saying “the winning of President al-Assad in the elections and gaining percentage over 80% of votes embodies the defeat of the US and enemies of the Syrian people.”
