Iranian experts have discovered a new oil block in the Northern province of Semnan, an informed source revealed on Sunday.

“Based on the studies and seismological tests in the Central Kavir (Desert) of Iran, we have found a new oil block named Kavir (Southwest of Semnan),” the source told FNA.

Elsewhere, the source referred to the negotiations held with Petrovietnam and Italy’s Edison firms, and said, “The two companies are due to resume exploration activities in Danan block in Ilam and Dayyer block.”

Managing Director of the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) Heidar Bahmani announced in February that the country has held constructive talks with Italian firms to restart cooperation in oil and gas drilling projects.

“We have held negotiations with 30 delegations from Europe and Asia in the past few months. The main topic has been oil and gas drilling plans using the world’s state-of-the-art technologies,” Bahmani said.

He specifically named energy giants from Italy, Singapore and Europe that have been in talks with Iran.

“All these firms seek joint ventures and cooperation with the NIDC in oil and gas drilling projects,” Bahmani added.
