Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani on Thursday offered condolences to the families of victims of Jordanian airstrikes on al-Taf village in northern Daraa countryside.
Jordanian aircraft struck several sites in Daraa countryside on Monday evening, killing seven people, including women and children, and injuring three others.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates summoned Jordanian Ambassador to Syria Sufian Qudah and handed him a formal note of protest over the strikes.
In a statement, Syria condemned and rejected the Jordanian strikes and the accompanying violation of Syrian airspace without prior coordination. It said work is underway to establish an urgent joint field and security committee with Jordan to address the violations and prevent their recurrence.
Al-Shaibani and his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, also agreed during a phone call on Wednesday to form a joint security committee to establish the full facts surrounding the recent operations in Daraa and follow up on their repercussions.
The committee will also work to develop field and intelligence coordination to address terrorist threats while safeguarding Syria’s sovereignty and protecting the lives of innocent civilians.
