Virtual map of the Syrian Army’s progress in east Aleppo

The Syrian Arab Army imposed full control over all of jihadist-controlled neighborhoods of eastern Aleppo on Thursday after more than four years of war inside the provincial capital.

This massive military operation in eastern Aleppo stretched over two months and required the use of thousands of Syrian Army personnel in order to finally expel the remaining jihadist rebels from Fatah Halab and Jaysh Al-Fateh.

Starting with the Handarat Refugee Camp in northeastern Aleppo, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies from Liwaa Al-Quds (Palestinian paramilitary) would sweep through large parts of the provincial capital, paving the way for their eventual entry into the jihadist heartland.
