Syria participates in G-77 and China Summit kicked off today

Havana, SANA- The Group 77 and China Summit activities started Friday in the Cuban capital of Havana with the participation of Syria and more than 133 other states.

Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel stressed in the opening session of the summit the necessity of boosting the economic growth and achieving social justice across the globe in addition to giving all population worldwide the opportunity to prosper.

President Canel denounced the continuation of the unjust US sanctions being imposed on his country since decades, calling for lifting them.

He touched upon several challenges being faced by peoples due to unjust international standards, adding that the states of G- 77 which is built on partnership and friendship intend to confront these challenges.

The Syrian delegation in Havana includes Finance Minister Kinan Yaghi and Fadi Salti al-Khalil, Head of the Planning and International Cooperation Commission, in addition to the Syrian Embassy diplomatic staff there.

On the sideline of the summit, the delegation is conducting several meetings with Cuban officials and a number of participating delegations to discuss supporting the just causes of the South States.

The Group of 77 (G-77) was established on 15 June 1964 by seventy-seven developing countries. The Group is the largest intergovernmental organization of developing countries in the United Nations, which provides the means for the countries of the South to articulate and promote their collective economic interests and enhance their joint negotiating capacity on all major international economic issues within the United Nations system, and promote South-South cooperation for development. The Group’s first meeting was held in Algeria in October 1967.
