Shipping traffic in Hormuz slows to a near halt

Maritime traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz experienced a slowdown over the weekend, as no vessels were recorded to have navigated the crucial waterway on Sunday.

According to recent reports from Reuters, maritime transit in the Strait of Hormuz experienced a slowdown over the weekend, with data from Kpler indicating there were no vessel movements through the crucial waterway on Sunday.

On Saturday, five commodity vessels navigated the waterway, while none passed through on Sunday, indicating a marked decrease from the previous weekend when 31 vessels made the transit, according to the data.

A decline in figures over the weekend coincided with the United Arab Emirates reporting that three vessels managed by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company were attacked while in transit the previous week.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated on Saturday that the United States must comply with Iran’s stipulated terms in order for maritime passage through the waterway to recommence.
