Yemeni Offensive Targets Riyadh-Linked Mercenaries, Resulting in Saudi Casualties: Military Spokesperson Reports
Yemen's military forces have executed an extensive missile and drone operation, aiming at the locations, assembly sites, and weapons storage of Saudi-supported mercenaries in the Mokha region of Ta’izz Province, as well as at the Tadawin camp located in Ma’rib Province.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree disclosed in a Tuesday statement that the operation featured a substantial deployment of ballistic missiles and attack drones, successfully hitting specified targets such as command centers.
Saree reported that the attacks resulted in numerous casualties and injuries, among them Saudi citizens.
Following a series of strikes by Yemeni forces against Saudi-aligned troops for the second straight day, a subsequent operation unfolded.
On Monday, Yemeni military units launched an offensive against Saudi-backed fighters associated with the Shabwah Defense Forces in the Bayhan district of southeastern Shabwah Province, local media sources reported. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least two militants and left several others injured.
The strikes on Monday occurred just hours after Yemeni forces launched drone attacks on Mokha. As of yet, there have been no immediate reports concerning casualties or damage from the late-Sunday offensives.
The day prior, Yemeni attacks targeted Mokha and surrounding regions, resulting in the deaths of seven Saudi-backed mercenaries and the injury of 30 others.
Saree reported that a significant operation was executed amid Saudi-backed forces’ extensive military buildup as they readied for offensive actions against Yemeni forces.
The recent wave of strikes follows Yemen’s announcement on July 20 of a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia. This move comes as a response to a 12-year-long siege imposed by Riyadh on Yemen.
The Yemeni Armed Forces have declared the launch of multiple operations targeting vessels associated with Saudi interests in the Red Sea.
Concurrently with the imposition of the blockade, Saudi Arabia and its coalition partners initiated a destructive military campaign against Yemen, receiving military, political, and logistical backing from the United States and select Western nations.
The conflict has resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of Yemeni lives, yet Saudi Arabia has not succeeded in fulfilling its main goal of reinstating a government loyal to Riyadh.
