Yemeni Army Launches Drone in New Anti-Israeli Operation Targeting Red Sea’s Eilat Port

Yemen's Armed Forces have deployed an indigenous combat drone targeting the city of Eilat, located at the southern extremity of the occupied Palestinian territories, in their latest operation against Israeli positions.

The Israeli military announced that it successfully intercepted a drone as it flew over the Red Sea city, according to an official statement.

No injuries or damage have been reported, and Yemeni military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree has yet to provide a statement.

The announcement follows shortly after the leader of Yemen’s Ansarullah resistance movement made a statement declaring that the reopening of the Port of Eilat, known locally as Umm al-Rashrash, is an impossibility. He reinforced Yemen’s unwavering position and commitment to maintain maritime sanctions targeting the Israeli occupation authorities in strategic locations including the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Arabian Sea.

In a televised address on Thursday, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi underscored that the recent incidents in the Red Sea represent a stark warning to all shipping companies associated with Israel. He highlighted that any vessels linked to the Israeli regime will encounter strong retaliatory actions.

He was referencing the Yemeni navy’s attack on the vessel ETERNITY C, which was headed for the port of Eilat in the contested region, following repeated instances of the crew ignoring naval warnings.

Earlier this week, the Yemeni armed forces unveiled video evidence depicting the boarding and subsequent sinking of the vessel Magic Seas. The ship’s owning company had allegedly breached the Yemeni prohibition on vessels destined for Israel.

The Red Sea, a vital waterway for the transportation of oil and commodities adjacent to Yemen’s coast, has seen a significant development as Yemen’s armed forces have prohibited the entry of ships bound for Israel since November 2023. This decision was made in solidarity with Gaza following allegations of genocide perpetrated by Israel in the region.

Amid escalating conflict in Gaza, Yemeni forces imposed a strategic blockade on critical maritime routes. This move aims to hinder the flow of military supplies to Israel and to press the international community to address the pressing humanitarian crisis in the region.

The Yemeni Armed Forces have announced that they will continue their attacks unless Israel halts its ground and air operations in Gaza.
