Zionist Terror Regime Launches New Ground Operations in Southern Syria Amid HTS Negotiations

Amid continuing negotiations between 'israel' and Syria's ruling Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) regime regarding what officials have described as "a security agreement," Israeli military forces have conducted a series of ground operations in the southern provinces of Quneitra and Dara’a.

According to local media reports, an Israeli military convoy advanced into the regions between the towns of Jubata al-Khashab and Khan Arnabah in Quneitra province on Saturday, conducting search operations in the area.

The incident followed just a day after an Israeli military convoy entered Ma’ariya village, located in the Yarmouk Basin region of Dara’a province. The convoy established a temporary checkpoint on the village’s eastern side, where individuals passing by were halted for inspections.

A new convoy has been dispatched along the route connecting the villages of Kuwaya and Abdin.

In a recent military operation, an Israeli convoy comprising five military vehicles made an incursion into the village of al-Samadaniyya al-Sharqiya.

Witnesses have reported that Israeli soldiers established a checkpoint at the western access point to the village, halting multiple civilian vehicles and conducting identity card checks on the passengers.

No arrests have been reported, according to local sources, as soldiers were observed conducting comprehensive searches of individuals traversing the area.

On September 17, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, who has declared himself the president of Syria, stated that security discussions with Israel are a “necessity” and may yield outcomes in the “coming days.”

He claimed that the United States had not exerted pressure on Syria’s leadership to reach an agreement with Israel, but instead was serving as a mediator in the situation.

In recent months, representatives from Israel and Syria’s HTS regime have initiated direct talks aimed at halting Tel Aviv’s aggressive actions towards Syria and establishing a “security agreement.”

Israel has engaged in a series of aggressive maneuvers throughout Syrian territory subsequent to the downfall of Bashar al-Assad’s administration in late 2022.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered his military forces to push deeper into Syrian territory, targeting and seizing several key strategic locations.

Israel has expanded its hold over Syrian territory by assuming control of the buffer zone that divides the occupied Golan Heights from the rest of Syria. This action contravenes the 1974 disengagement agreement.

According to experts, the lack of action by the HTS regime, combined with its overtures toward normalization with Tel Aviv, has seemingly emboldened Israel to expand its occupation of Syrian territory and escalate its aerial assaults on the nation.
