The Syrian Arab Army’s 11th Tank Division, backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Russian Air Force, repelled the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) large-scale offensive at the imperative village of Mfakkar Sharqi in Hama’s eastern countryside.

During the inception of this battle, the Syrian Armed Forces were forced to withdraw from much of the checkpoints that surround Mfakkar Sharqi after the Islamic State terrorists overwhelmed the government units with sheer manpower.

However, thanks in large part to the Russian Air Force, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to beat back the encroaching terrorists before they could advance inside Mfakkar Sharqi.

The Russian Air Force played a key role in this battle against the Islamic State terrorists, as they conducted several necessary airstrikes over the Al-Salamiyah District’s eastern countryside.

A field correspondent told Al-Masdar News on Sunday evening that the Syrian Armed suffered minimal casualties during this strategic battle; meanwhile, ISIS lost a large number of combatants due to their careless military strategy.

The Islamic State offensive on Sunday marked the second time this week that the terrorist group has attempted to capture Mfakkar Sharqi from the Syrian Armed Forces.
