Syria army launches attacks on militants near Damascus

The Syrian army has carried out a series of attacks against the foreign-backed militants operating inside Syria near the capital, Damascus, inflicting heavy losses on the terrorists.

According to reports on Tuesday, the Syrian army stormed militants’ hideouts in Jobar, which is located in the eastern suburb of the capital, following a ground operation backed by massive airstrikes.

Syrian fighter jets and artillery reportedly targeted the militants’ positions, destroying their hideouts and tunnels.

Many Takfiri terrorists were killed and many others were injured in the attack.

Government forces closed in on the militants after days of heavy clashes in the area. The army said the operation was conducted to flush the militants out of the strategic area, which was used as a launch pad for many attacks on Damascus.

Syrian army units further carried out successful operations in other areas in the countryside of Damascus including Douma, Zabdeen and al-Nashabiyeh farms in the eastern Ghouta and Khan al-Sheeh.

Syrian soldiers also inflicted heavy losses on the Takfiri militants in other parts of the country including Homs, Aleppo, Idlib, and Lattakia.

Over the past months, the Syrian army has made major gains in its battle against Takfiri militants across the country.

More than 191,000 people have been killed in the over three years of militancy in Syria, according to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

The ISIL Takfiri terrorists are currently in control of parts of eastern Syria.

The militants in Syria are reportedly supported by the Western powers and their regional allies – especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
