A huge number of pro-government reinforcements have arrived in eastern Homs. The new forces come from the southwestern desert region of Syria and have been spotted arriving in Palmyra’s eastern countryside and in the area of Hamimah.

These reinforcements are to be deployed against ISIS in a new, broad-front offensive push by pro-government forces towards the strategic town of al-Sukhnah and the T-2 Airbase.

The new forces which have been relocated to eastern Homs include the elite 800th Regiment of the SAA’s Republican Guard, the Al-Quwah Al-Jaafriyah and Sarayaa Al-Areen militia groups as well as major elements of the 1st Armored Division and 3rd Armored Division.

Virtually all of these reinforcements are from southeast Rif Dimashq and eastern As-Suwayda Governorates where they were engaged against US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) mercenaries.

However, in response to a recent ceasefire – brokered by Russia and the United States – reached between pro-government forces and FSA factions in the Syria’s southwestern Badia region, the Syrian High Command has decided to redeploy these core formations to eastern Homs.
