Maduro declares national emergency after US attacks

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has declared a state of emergency and called on the country’s people to mobilize to “defeat this imperialist aggression.”

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro declared a national emergency in response to the US attacks and called on social and political forces to “activate mobilization plans,” DW reported.

The Venezuelan government said in a statement early Saturday that it rejects “military aggression” by the US.

Attacks took place in the capital, Caracas, and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira, the statement said.

The US President Donald Trump ordered strikes on sites inside Venezuela, including military facilities, U.S. officials told CBS News, as the administration early Saturday ratcheted up its campaign against the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Fox News reported that the White House confirmed that the United States had attacked Venezuela.
