Leader Reappoints Trio of Faqihs to Guardian Council

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed, has recently reappointed three Faqihs, or experts in Islamic law, to the Guardian Council.

The Leader has issued an order to reinstate the three Faqihs at the Guardian Council following the conclusion of their term, as per the request from Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, Secretary of the Guardian Council. This action comes in response to Jannati’s letter seeking guidance on the matter.

The Guardian Council consists of a panel of six Faqihs and six jurists. The Faqihs are appointed by the Leader, whereas the parliament selects the six jurists from a list proposed by the head of the Judiciary.

The council serves as an oversight entity, tasked with examining legislation approved by the parliament. Additionally, it holds the responsibility of interpreting the constitution.
