Iran and Turkey Foreign Ministers Call for Muslim World to Address Zionist Actions in Gaza
In a joint appeal, the foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey urged the global Muslim community to take decisive steps to halt what they describe as the Israeli regime's extensive 21-month campaign against the Gaza Strip.
The statements were delivered in a phone conversation on Monday between Abbas Araghchi and his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan. Turkey is presently serving as the rotating president of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The former issued a vehement denunciation of the Zionist regime’s intensified actions, which have resulted in a significant loss of life, claiming over 59,000 Palestinian lives, predominantly women and children, since the conflict began in October 2023.
He highlighted the regime’s tactic of depriving Gazans of essential resources like food and water, utilizing starvation as a weapon to amplify the lethal effects of the ongoing conflict.
The senior diplomat urged urgent mobilization and prompt measures from Muslim nations, advocating for the convening of an OIC summit and the activation of regional consultative mechanisms designed to halt the genocide.
He emphasized that these collective efforts must also confront the regime’s numerous deadly acts across the West Asia region. This includes pointing to Tel Aviv’s concurrent escalations in Lebanon, Syria, and other nations.
Fidan also denounced the Israeli attacks on Gaza and Syria, emphasizing the urgency for swift and coordinated efforts by Muslim nations to stop the regime’s lethal aggression.
The call emerged as the regime continues to exert stringent control over the entry of much-needed supplies into the coastal enclave, significantly reducing their inflow to near negligible levels.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reports that an alarming one million children are facing starvation across the region due to the ongoing crisis.
In response to the grave circumstances, the regime has established what are described as aid distribution points across Gaza. These locations have become focal points for Palestinians, who, amid intense Israeli gunfire, gather out of dire necessity for essential food supplies.
