Hezbollah’s Sheikh Qassem Delivers Address Today

Hezbollah's Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem is scheduled to deliver a televised address today in commemoration of the event.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem is scheduled to deliver a televised address today in honor of the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

A ceremony commemorating the event is scheduled to occur in Beirut’s southern suburb, Dahiyeh, at 17:00 local time.

The birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is commemorated annually as the Week of Islamic Unity in recent decades. Traditionally, Sunnis celebrate this occasion on the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal, while Shias observe it on the 17th.

Imam Sayyed Rouhullah Moussawi Khomeini, the architect of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, suggested that the interval between the two significant dates be commemorated as a week dedicated to unity and brotherhood.

Sheikh Qassem is anticipated to address the latest developments in Lebanon and the broader region. This speech follows an incident where Israeli forces reportedly launched an assault on the Qatari capital, Doha, in what appears to be a botched attempt to assassinate senior Hamas leaders.

The address is delivered against the backdrop of ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, predominantly targeting the southern region of the country nearly every day. This occurs as Israel continues to occupy five positions along the southern border, an action that contravenes a ceasefire agreement established after a 66-day conflict that occurred between September and November 2024.

Lebanon is experiencing significant pressure from the United States, which is a primary supporter of Israel, to initiate the disarmament of Hezbollah.

In a recent address, Sheikh Qassem urged the Lebanese government to retract what he described as unlawful and unconstitutional resolutions concerning the disarmament of the resistance.
