In the early hours of October 9, the Palestinian Resistance movement Hamas declared a landmark agreement resulting in a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The organization announced that the accord fulfills its key demands, with senior officials celebrating it as a historic triumph for the Palestinian cause.
As per the announcement, the agreement aligns with Hamas’s non-negotiable demands, which include a total cessation of hostilities, the full withdrawal of Israeli forces, unimpeded humanitarian aid access, and an all-encompassing prisoner exchange.
A senior official from Hamas, Izzat al-Rishq, attributed the ceasefire to “the immense sacrifices and remarkable patience of our people, alongside the strength and resilience of the resistance.” He asserted that this agreement marks “an outstanding national achievement.”
A Tribute to the Public and a Reaffirmed Commitment
In a compelling statement, Hamas extended a “heartfelt salute” to Palestinians worldwide, expressing deep appreciation for their “exceptional pride, bravery, and dignity.”
A recent statement praised the resilience of the population in standing against what was described as fascist occupation initiatives. “The substantial sacrifices and unwavering resolve of our citizens have successfully countered Israeli occupation strategies aimed at subjugation and displacement,” the statement declared.
Despite the recent truce, the movement reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing struggle, resolutely declaring that it will not forsake the national rights of its people until freedom, independence, and self-determination are fully attained.
“We are committed to maintaining our support for those incarcerated individuals.”
In alignment with this pledge, Zaher Jabarin, the head of the Hamas Martyrs and Prisoners’ Office, has affirmed that a list detailing Palestinian prisoners earmarked for release has been submitted to mediators.
Hamas has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritize the welfare of its detained members and their families, declaring that it will tirelessly strive for the release of every last prisoner, according to a statement made by Jabarin.
Credits and Calls
Hamas has extended its gratitude to the mediating countries of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey for their efforts in facilitating the agreement. The group also issued a direct appeal to the United States to ensure that “Israel” adheres to all its commitments under the ceasefire.
The announcement brings to a close a protracted and intense period, which Hamas has portrayed not merely as a halt in hostilities, but as a strategic victory. According to Izzat al-Rishq, the objectives that the occupation could not achieve through “genocide and starvation over two full years” were also unattainable through diplomatic negotiations.
The ceasefire is anticipated to commence at 12:00 PM on Thursday, according to insights from Hani al-Dali, an analyst specializing in Palestinian Resistance affairs.
