Internal Security Forces dismantle an ISIS cell across several provinces

The General Intelligence Service, in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces, dismantled a cell affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS that was involved in carrying out kidnappings, planting explosive devices, and assassinations. The cell began operating in Raqqa Governorate and extended its activities to Aleppo, Idlib, and Homs.

A series of coordinated security operations resulted in the arrest of four leaders of the cell in Raqqa, along with a number of its members in Aleppo, Idlib, and Homs, following the monitoring of their activities and movements. Explosive materials found in their possession, which had been prepared for terrorist acts, were also seized, the Internal Security Forces said on Sunday.

They added that preliminary investigations revealed that members of the cell were involved in carrying out five kidnapping operations, in addition to planning terrorist acts targeting the security and stability of the region. They added that the relevant authorities are continuing their investigations in preparation for referring the suspects to the competent judiciary.

On August 18, the Internal Security Forces and the General Intelligence Service, in cooperation with international partners, arrested Hamza Abdullah Mohammed, known as “Abu Jihad al-Muhajir,” who is classified as one of the prominent military leaders of ISIS. The operation was carried out in the countryside of Manbij in Aleppo Governorate.
