Syria begins transporting crude oil from Hasakah to Baniyas refinery

The Syrian Petroleum Company said on Sunday it has begun transporting crude oil from the Jbessa oil field in eastern Hasakah province to the Baniyas refinery on Syria’s Mediterranean coast.

The move follows the arrival of the first shipment of crude oil from fields in Deir Ezzor to storage facilities in Baniyas, where the oil will be processed.

Earlier Sunday, the company said 20 tanker trucks carrying crude oil from the al-Omar and al-Tank fields in the Deir Ezzor countryside had reached Baniyas, marking the first delivery from the area since government forces took control.

The company announced on Saturday that it had begun extracting oil from fields in northeastern Syria recently taken over from the SDF, with crude being transported to refineries in Homs and Baniyas.

Safwan Sheikh Ahmad, the company’s communications director, said the operations aim to restore production to previous levels, projecting output could reach about 100,000 barrels per day within four months.
