Iran opens fiber optic factory in Venezuela under ‘technology diplomacy’ initiative: ICT Minister

An Iranian fiber optic factory has commenced operations in Venezuela as part of expanding the “technology diplomacy” initiative, says minister of information and communications technology (ICT).
Speaking during a joint meeting with members of Parliament’s Program, Budget and Accounting Committee on Tuesday, Sattar Hashemi highlighted the “Technology Diplomacy” initiative as a key priority for his ministry.
“Over the past year, the administration has advanced technological exports to nations in the Horn of Africa, Latin America, and Russia,” he said, expressing hope for a tenfold increase in the exports.
Regarding the agreements made with Venezuela, Hashemi noted that the Iranian fiber optic factory built in the Latin American country has recently been launched and has begun its production.
“Our country’s knowledge-based companies have also become active in Venezuela’s communication infrastructure,” he added.
The Iranian fiber optic factory in Venezuela was launched with a $10 million investment. Designed to address Venezuela’s domestic demand, the plant also aims to position itself as a regional export hub for telecommunications equipment across Latin America.
Hashemi also presented a report on the measures taken during the 12-day Israeli aggression against Iran.
“Maximum interaction with the Telecommunication Company during this war greatly helped create stability in the communications network,” he said.
A senior Iranian official says the country has successfully thwarted a large-scale and sophisticated cyberattack targeting its critical national infrastructures.
He noted that during the Israeli-imposed war, Iran experienced cyber warfare along with the field war, adding, “We faced the most complex and widespread attacks, with 20,000 daily assaults targeting entry portals and systems.”
With the efforts made, the damage from these attacks was minimized, he further said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that selected operators are currently deploying and formally rolling out 5G networks nationwide, adding that integrating fifth-generation technology with fiber optic infrastructure will substantially enhance overall network performance.
