The Lebanese Army Commander, General Rodolphe Haykal, announced on Friday that national army forces have been dispatched to the area south of the Litani River in southern Lebanon. This deployment comes amid ongoing occupations by Israeli forces at five locations in the region.
In a speech delivered at the Ministry of Defense in Yarze, just east of Beirut, General Haykal extended his congratulations to officers on the occasion of Army Day. He emphasized the army’s crucial role and steadfastness amidst the challenging circumstances facing Lebanon.
In addressing the escalating Israeli violations, which have resulted in both casualties and widespread destruction, he underscored the Army’s preparedness. He stated, “We take pride in our martyrs and wounded who have made sacrifices for the country.”
General Haykal underscored the continued initiatives to maintain stability, safeguard borders, limit smuggling activity, and tackle external challenges. He highlighted the ongoing coordination with Syrian authorities to enhance border security.
The Lebanese military commander announced that forces have been stationed south of the Litani River in collaboration with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), even as Israel maintains its hold on positions captured during its recent offensive.
He praised the residents of the southern region for their cooperation and reaffirmed the continuous dialogue with the Tripartite Mechanism responsible for monitoring the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
Earlier on Thursday, four individuals from Lebanon lost their lives following extensive airstrikes conducted by Israeli forces targeting various regions in southern Lebanon.
Israeli forces have persistently targeted southern Lebanon with near-daily airstrikes, while continuing to hold five positions along the southern border. This action is in breach of a ceasefire agreement established after a 66-day conflict between September and November 2024.
The Israeli forces have carried out four strikes on Beirut since the ceasefire agreement.
At least 230 Lebanese individuals have lost their lives in the Israeli strikes since the ceasefire commenced on November 27, 2024.
