Hamas Vows to Uphold Legacy of Martyr Ismail Haniyeh
The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has vowed to uphold the legacy of its former Politburo Chief, Ismail Haniyeh, following his assassination in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran on July 31, 2024. The organization affirmed its commitment to continue his path of resistance.

In a statement commemorating the first anniversary of Ismail Haniyeh, the former Politburo Chief of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas asserted that the attack transpired merely a day after Haniyeh participated in the inauguration of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian. The statement condemned what it termed as the Zionist regime’s overt defiance of international norms and sovereignty.
Ilkha News Agency reported that the attack, perceived as an act of aggression intended to silence a prominent figure in the Palestinian movement, has only strengthened the determination of the Palestinian people and their resistance, according to a statement.
Haniyeh, revered as a beacon of resilience and unity, received widespread recognition across Palestine and beyond for his roles as a preacher, mujahid, adept orator, and national leader deeply devoted to the liberation of his homeland. As a close associate of Hamas’ founder, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, Haniyeh’s life was distinguished by sacrifice, bravery, and steadfast dedication to the Palestinian cause. His assassination occurred amid the historic Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood, a pivotal event that continues to redefine the political and military dynamics of the region. According to Hamas’ official website, the battle, initiated on October 7, 2023, represented a monumental shift, highlighting the vulnerabilities of the Zionist occupation and affirming the indomitable spirit of the Palestinian people.
The anniversary of Haniyeh’s death is observed amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza, as the Palestinian resistance, spearheaded by the Al-Qassam Brigades, continues its fight against Israeli forces. From areas like Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahia in the north to Khan Younis and Rafah in the south, resistance operatives have carried out bold maneuvers, including the operation dubbed “David’s Stones,” aimed at the Israeli military’s armored vehicles, and have set up lethal ambushes in neighborhoods such as Al-Shuja’iya and Al-Zaytoun.
Hamas has reiterated Haniyeh’s vision, asserting that their population, which rose against oppression on October 7, remains steadfast in its goal to achieve liberation from occupation. The group emphasized their commitment to attaining freedom, independence, the right of return, and self-determination, according to their statement.
