Zionist Forces Conduct Raid on Syrian Military Barracks in Quneitra: SOHR Reports

Zionist military units conducted several incursions into Syria's Quneitra countryside, once again breaching the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement and infringing on Syrian sovereignty.

Israeli military units initiated simultaneous operations in the southern regions of Syria’s Quneitra countryside, allegedly breaching Syrian sovereignty and contravening the separation of forces agreements within the demilitarized zone, according to a report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) on Tuesday.

In a recent development, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that Israeli forces infiltrated a barracks associated with an artillery unit of the 90th Brigade situated in the village of Al-Kum, located in the Quneitra countryside. The Israeli troops reportedly carried out search operations within the premises before retreating towards the Al-Salam Highway. Furthermore, the occupying forces established a temporary checkpoint on the Al-Kum–Khan Arnabah road, where they stopped and searched civilians. At this time, there have been no confirmed detentions of Syrian civilians.

An additional Israeli unit, consisting of four tanks and multiple transport vehicles, advanced from the Al‑Hamidiya base towards the village of Ofaniya in the northern Quneitra region, coinciding with drone activity in the vicinity.

In a recent maneuver, military forces associated with the occupation conducted operations near Al-Samdaniyah al-Gharbiyah, a town in the western region. The forces advanced from the demolished city of Quneitra, which lies within the demilitarized zone. The patrol included the deployment of two tanks and three military vehicles, moving through agricultural terrain before retreating to their original positions.

The recent incursions into Syrian territory constitute a clear violation of the nation’s sovereignty. Furthermore, these actions breach the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement and the operational mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). This force was specifically established to oversee adherence to the demilitarized buffer zone arrangement between Syria and the areas of the Golan Heights occupied by Israel.

The Syrian Observatory has consistently urged the United Nations and international forces to take action to prevent these violations and to hold the Israeli forces responsible for their recurrent incursions.

Recent activities suggest an intensification of Israeli operations in southern Syria, particularly in the Quneitra region. Reports indicate a series of actions, including drone flights, tank incursions, and the establishment of ad-hoc checkpoints, accompanied by bulldozing operations within the designated separation zone. Furthermore, it is reported that transitional authorities in Damascus engaged in prolonged discussions with Israeli officials, aiming to forge a security agreement.

Tel Aviv persists in insisting on the full demilitarization of southern Syria, citing purported security issues. Despite this, the current authorities have refrained from any military response to numerous strikes. These include attacks on significant sites such as the Syrian General Staff Command, the Defense Ministry facilities on two occasions, and the presidential palace.
