Yemenis Honor Fallen Military Leader al-Ghamari in Grand Sana’a Funeral Ceremony
On Monday, the streets of Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, were teeming with hundreds of thousands of individuals who gathered to attend the funeral for the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Staff Lieutenant General Mohammad Abd al-Karim al-Ghamari. Al-Ghamari has been honored posthumously as a martyr, following his death in Israeli airstrikes in August.

A large-scale demonstration, referred to as the “Day of Loyalty to the Faithful,” gathered at Al-Sabaeen Square and the Al-Shaab Mosque.
The event marked a notable expression of national sentiment, attracting citizens from the capital and numerous provinces, as well as senior military officials and government representatives.
Demonstrators held aloft portraits of the deceased general, waved Yemeni flags, and unfurled banners in support of the Palestinian Resistance while denouncing US-Israeli aggression.
Al Mayadeen has reported that the funeral of martyr al-Ghamari saw the participation of hundreds of thousands of citizens, underscoring the widespread public reverence for the late figure.
The gathering at Sabaeen Square showcased a striking display of national solidarity and widespread backing for General al-Ghamari, highlighting the strategic vision of the Yemeni Armed Forces.
In a televised address last Thursday, the Yemeni Armed Forces disclosed that General al-Ghamari was “martyred while fulfilling his responsibilities in support of Palestine.” The announcement paid tribute to him and his fellow comrades as “steadfast mujahideen” who were profoundly devoted and seasoned in their mission.
**Yemeni Sacrifices Expected to Strengthen Palestinian Support**
At the funeral, Mahdi al-Mashat, the leader of the Yemeni Supreme Political Council, remarked that al-Ghamari had been “honorably” martyred in what he described as the most noble battle and the purest cause, in support of the Gaza people.
He commended al-Ghamari for “achieving the honor he pursued” and lauded his sacrifice, expressing aspirations for his proximity to the ranks of the martyrs.
Al-Mashat affirmed Yemen’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the situation in Gaza, emphasizing that sacrifices will only strengthen their resolve. He cautioned that any party aligning with adversarial forces, whether Israeli or otherwise, will encounter consequences.
Since the commencement of Israel’s conflict in Gaza in October 2023, Yemeni forces have conducted multiple operations in solidarity with the civilians affected in Gaza. These operations include targeting locations within the Palestinian territories and intercepting Israeli ships approaching ports in the contested regions.
A tenuous ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is currently holding; however, Sana’a has issued a stern warning that any breach of the truce by Israel in the Gaza Strip will result in a more “severe and decisive” reaction from the Yemeni Armed Forces.
