World Energy Stability Threatened, Advisor Warns of Potential US Mishap

A high-ranking Iranian representative has cautioned that worldwide energy supplies and international commerce could face additional disruptions with just “a single move” if the United States or Israel commits what Tehran sees as an imprudent error.

Ali Akbar Velayati, a key advisor to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, leader of the Islamic Revolution, stated on Sunday that the Resistance Front’s unified command considers the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to be of strategic importance akin to that of the Strait of Hormuz.

He reiterated that a “foolish” misjudgment by the White House could swiftly result in significant disruptions to global energy supply routes and commercial shipping.

Velayati issued a stark warning, stating that should the White House repeat its past mistakes, it will quickly come to understand that a solitary action has the potential to disrupt the global flow of energy and trade.

He further remarked that although the United States has gained historical insights from Iran, it still lacks a comprehensive grasp of the dynamics of power.

In a historical context, Velayati highlighted the achievements of ancient Persia, specifically under Darius the Great, noting that they had accomplished significant engineering tasks, such as linking the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea via waterways, at a time when the forebears of the Anglo-Saxons were still in their early developmental stages.

The comments emerge as geopolitical tensions intensify in critical maritime routes, where control of strategic chokepoints continues to be vital for maintaining global economic stability.

Iran’s recent move to close the Hormuz Strait to enemy ships has significantly intensified pressure on its adversaries. Adding to this, the Islamic Republic has suggested it may further escalate tensions by potentially closing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, another crucial maritime chokepoint.

The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime chokepoint through which approximately 20 percent of the world’s oil supply typically transits, has been effectively closed following US-Israeli military actions against Iran in late February.

Reports indicate that hundreds of vessels remain anchored in proximity as global shipping firms and oil exporters have temporarily suspended operations over escalating security concerns.

On Sunday, Trump reiterated his warning to Iran, emphasizing potential severe consequences if the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked. He stated that the United States is prepared to target the nation’s power infrastructure and bridges if the situation persists.
