US Army Website Shut Down after hacked by SEA

Pro-Syrian government Syrian Electronic Army hacked on Monday the official website of US Army, the group said on its Twitter account.

The hackers posted various screenshots calling on US Army to cease equipping and training terror groups that fight the Syrian Army in Syria. “Your commanders admit they are training the people they have sent you to die fighting,” said one of the messages.

The Unites States has sided with anti-Assad rebels since the uprising broke out in 2011.

Army spokesman Brigadier General Malcolm Frost confirmed the hacking, saying the Army decided to temporarily shut down the website to secure the information.

The web is designed for the general public and contains only basic information with no confidential or classified data inside.

“After this came to our attention, the Army took appropriate preventive measures to ensure there was no breach of Army data by taking down the website temporarily,” Frost said.

The SAE is a hacker group that supports Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad against the Islamic extremist groups that strive to establish Shariaa-governed states in the region, most prominently ISIS and al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Nusra Front.

The group takes credit for cyber hacking major news websites and accounts including the New York Times, The Washington Post, BBC, AFP, and CBS News.
