Terrorist Al-Nusra Enters the Abu Al-Dhuhour Airbase in Idlib: Intense Fighting Reported

For the last two days, the Syrian Al-Qaeda faction “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and their affiliate group “Jund Al-Aqsa” have repeatedly attempted to break-through the Syrian Arab Army’s frontline defenses at the isolated Abu Al-Dhuhour Military Airport in the Idlib Governorate’s eastern countryside.

Up until recently, the Syrian Al-Qaeda fighters were unsuccessful in this military endeavor; however, mother nature played an integral role in their success on Tuesday morning, as the nationwide sandstorm has kept the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) grounded and unserviceable due to poor visibility.

On Monday, Jabhat Al-Nusra launched a series of suicide bombings that targeted the Abu Al-Dhuhour Military Airport’s eastern flank; this resulted in the capture of Al-Khashar by the Al-Qaeda fighters and the Syrian Army’s withdrawal to the eastern gates of the isolated airbase.

The following morning, Jabhat Al-Nusra and Jund Al-Aqsa prepared for what was thought to be their final assault on the Abu Al-Dhuhour Military Airport; however, once again, the Syrian Arab Army was able to repel the encroaching Al-Qaeda combatants before dawn on Tuesday.

Not long after their failed infiltration attempt, Jabhat Al-Nusra and Jund Al-Aqsa began their second and final assault on the Abu Al-Dhuhour Military Airport; this attack proved to be successful, as the Al-Qaeda militants were able to bypass the eastern gates and capture at least three hangars inside.

With nowhere to retreat and no air cover to bail them out, the Syrian Arab Army soldiers were confined to the western half of the Abu Al-Dhuhour Airport, where they are currently combatting the Al-Qaeda militants.

Both parties have reported the recent participation of the Syrian Air Forces, but these airstrikes have been limited due to the poor visibility from the sandstorm.

If the Syrian Armed Forces are unable to drive-out the Al-Qaeda combatants, they will be forced to either surrender or fight till the death.
