Syria’s Drug Enforcement Department foils drug distribution attempt in Latakia

Syria’s Drug Enforcement Department at the Ministry of Interior said on Friday that it had thwarted an attempt to distribute a shipment of narcotics following a targeted security operation in Latakia province.

The Drug Enforcement Department in Latakia said in a statement posted on the Interior Ministry’s Telegram channel that the operation, conducted following monitoring and surveillance efforts, led to the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of 100 kilograms of hashish, 100,000 Captagon pills and 5,000 pharmaceutical tablets.

The seized materials were confiscated, while investigations with the suspects are ongoing to identify their accomplices and other individuals involved in the case. The suspects will be referred to the relevant judiciary for legal proceedings, the department said.

Earlier this month, on July 11, the Drug Enforcement Department announced the arrest of a drug trafficker and distributor in Tartous province. The operation resulted in the seizure of 26 kilograms of hashish and a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
