Syrian border guards foil drug smuggling attempt near Lebanon

Units of the Syrian Border Guard under the Ministry of Defense thwarted a drug smuggling attempt in the Ras al-Maara area on the Syrian–Lebanese border.
The Media and Communication Directorate at the Ministry of Defense told SANA that the operation followed a carefully planned ambush which led to an exchange of fire with the smugglers, forcing them to flee toward Lebanese territory.
The Border Guard seized about 200 kilograms of assorted narcotics and a motorcycle. The confiscated items were transferred to the center and legal procedures were initiated accordingly.
The operation comes within ongoing efforts by the concerned authorities to combat the scourge of drugs, dismantle smuggling networks, and enforce the law to safeguard society and protect its citizens.
