The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Saudi-backed Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) group agreed to exchange prisoners in the East Ghouta, Thursday, Al-Masdar’s Ibrahim Joudeh reported this morning.

According to Joudeh, the exchange took place near the Jaysh Al-Islam stronghold of Douma, which is the largest city in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus.

Both sides agreed to release eight women they held in their prisons, including four women that were kidnapped by Jaysh Al-Islam in the ‘Adra Industrial Town in 2014.

The four women released from the Syrian Arab Army’s prisons were the wives of Jaysh Al-Islam fighters that were arrested for questioning.

More exchanges are expected to take place in the coming weeks, as both the Syrian Arab Army and Jaysh Al-Islam attempt to ease tensions in the East Ghouta region.
