Syria evacuates 173 flood- affected families from camps in western Idlib

Syrian emergency teams evacuated 173 families from six displacement camps in western Idlib over the past two days after severe weather caused flooding and damage, emergency minister said Wednesday.

Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed Al-Saleh said in a post on X that the families were moved from camps in Badama and Khirbet al-Jouz to temporary shelter centers, where they received basic assistance.

He said ministry teams carried out drainage operations, cleared culverts inside the camps, reopened more than 25 roads and 30 water channels, and removed five earthen berms as part of preparations for additional weather systems.

Al-Saleh added that emergency relief teams are coordinating with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the Idlib governor’s office to oversee the distribution of humanitarian aid delivered by organizations to affected residents.

Separately, the ministry has launched a rubble removal and road rehabilitation project in Jabal al-Akrad in Latakia province to support recovery efforts and facilitate the return of residents.

Heavy rainfall and flash floods have recently damaged displacement camps and infrastructure in parts of Idlib and Latakia, officials said.
