A top Iranian official has described selective approach to terrorism as a strategic error, calling for coordination among nations to combat this scourge.

“Fight against terrorism must be pursued within the framework of the international law and should respect sovereign rights of governments,” Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said during a meeting with Assistant State Secretary and Head of Middle East and North Africa Division of the Swiss Foreign Ministry Wolfgang Amadeus Bruelhart in Tehran on Tuesday.

The senior Iranian diplomat further noted that applying double standards to the campaign against terrorism will further complicate the problems in the Middle East.

Amir-Abdollahian also pointed to Iran’s unwavering and principled stance concerning the fight on terror, urging members of the international community to assume their share of responsibility in this regard.

“Repeating the errors and mistakes made in the past regarding anti-terror campaign will not help the restoration of regional stability and security, and will prepare the ground for further strengthening of terrorists,” he added.
The remarks come as nearly a dozen civilians have been killed in airstrikes carried out by the US military and its “partner nation forces” against targets inside the Syrian territory.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Tuesday that at least 11 people including four children were killed in the airstrikes in the northern province of Aleppo.

Military aircraft from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates took part in the airstrikes.

The aerial attacks also targeted areas in the east of the country. Positions held by terrorists from the al-Nusra Front and the ISIL were reportedly targeted

Bruelhart, for his part, underlined the importance of cooperation between Switzerland and Iran on issues in the Middle East, stating that the two counties have had constructive talks and cooperation on regional developments, the Syrian conflict in particular, and taken good steps in the field of humanitarian affairs.
