Rehabilitation work accelerates at Syria’s Deir Ezzor airport, aviation authority says

Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport said Monday that rehabilitation work at Deir Ezzor Civil Airport is moving ahead as part of efforts to restore the facility after more than a decade of closure due to the war.

In a statement posted on its official Telegram channel, the authority said technical and engineering teams are repairing key infrastructure, including the runway and essential facilities, and rebuilding the airport’s perimeter fence to meet international safety and security standards.

The announcement comes about a month after the Syrian government regained control of Deir Ezzor province and areas east of the Euphrates under an agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to integrate into state institutions.

Officials said the goal is to reopen the airport as soon as possible to serve residents and revive air traffic in Syria’s eastern region.
