Pyongyang stresses support for Damascus against terrorism

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Sin Hong Chol said Saturday Syria is able to defeat the takfiri terrorists and come out of the crisis stronger. During a meeting with Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, Chol reiterated that his country supports the Syrian people while they are confronting the terrorist war waged against them since2011.
Chol began yesterday a visit to Syria leading a delegation to hold talks with Syria officials, which started with a meeting with his counterpart Fayssal Mikdad.

Pyongyang stands by the Syrian state in its efforts to restore security and stability to its land and in defending its sovereignty and independence, Chol reiterated. For his part, the Parliament Speaker said it is important that the countries which stand up to the Western hegemony form a unified political front to face the international terrorism and its funders and backers.

This could be carried out through joint parliamentary action or through the executive authorities at various bilateral and multilateral levels, al-Laham added. He used the opportunity of the meeting to voice his appreciation to the DPRK for its supportive position towards the Syrian people, calling for further cementing the political, parliamentary, economic and trade relations between Damascus and Pyongyang.

In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi discussed with Chol means to activate the signed agreements between them and the possibility of reaching more agreements to help boost further trade exchange.

The two sides also discussed establishing joint business councils, in addition to activating the role of the Joint Syrian-Democratic Korean Committee. Premier al-Halaqi saw that based on the deeply-rooted political, historical and strategic bilateral relations, it is important for the two countries to develop the economic and scientific relations, which would help consolidate their resilience further and be useful for them to move towards broader spheres of joint work.

Given the similar course of struggle against the Zionist U.S. plots and international imperialism shared between the two countries, Syria stands by DPRK’s side in the face of the conspiracies targeting it and stresses the need for more cooperation and coordination in the international arenas, said Premier al-Halaqi.

For his part, Chol expressed his country’s keenness on activating bilateral cooperation and support for the Syrian people in the face of the terrorist war. He also thanked the Syrians for the humanitarian aid provided to the Democratic Korean people to alleviate the impact of the economic blockade imposed on them throughout the past years, stressing that DPRK and Syria are struggling against the same enemy and they will continue to achieve more victories.
