Pezeshkian Emphasizes Oversight of Nuclear Talks; Dismisses ‘Talks for the Sake of Talks’

Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei's thorough supervision over the indirect nuclear discussions with the United States. He dismissed any idea of Iran engaging in "talks for the sake of talks."

The chief executive announced during a meeting with clergymen in Tehran on Tuesday that the negotiations are proceeding with complete coordination and authorization from the Leader.

Pezeshkian stated that the objective is to earnestly address concerns rather than engage in discussions without purpose. The aim is to achieve substantive progress, with the hope that this endeavor will culminate in clear and definitive outcomes.

On Tuesday, the second round of revitalized nuclear discussions between Iran and the United States came to a close in Geneva.

Iran has reported “good progress” in ongoing discussions, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the process leads to the verifiable lifting of what they describe as illegal and unilateral U.S. sanctions imposed on the nation.

In a statement on the same day as the discussions, Ayatollah Khamenei criticized Washington’s efforts to dictate a specific result, remarking, “It is misguided and unwise to preset the conclusion before negotiations are underway.”

“This is exactly the misguided strategy being adopted by the leaders of the United States, including specific senators, the incumbent president, and others,” the Leader stated.

Ayatollah Khamenei issued a stark warning, claiming that the United States is attempting to assert control over Iran. He emphasized that, given their rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and core values, the Iranian people would steadfastly refuse to align themselves with what he described as corrupt leadership in the United States.

The Islamic Republic has firmly declared its intention to resist any excessive demands from Washington and its allies during diplomatic negotiations. This stance includes rejecting calls for Tehran to fully halt its peaceful nuclear energy program or to introduce topics like its missile capabilities or regional influence into the discussions.
