Parliament to Approve NPT Withdrawal if Snapback Mechanism Activated: Iran Lawmaker
A senior Iranian legislator has issued a stern warning to three European nations, advising against the activation of the snapback mechanism. Should this occur, the parliament is poised to pass a motion that would see Iran withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

In a recent interview with a local Iranian media outlet, Manouchehr Mottaki, a Tehran representative in the Iranian parliament, stated that should the three European nations initiate the snapback mechanism, the parliament is poised and prepared to respond decisively.
He cautioned the leading European nations involved in the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, known as the JCPOA, that a contingent of legislators has proposed a motion for Iran to exit the NPT in parliament. Should the European countries persist in applying pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran, this motion could be expedited for approval within 24 hours.
Tehran contends that the European troika—comprising France, Germany, and the United Kingdom—lacks the legal basis to activate the snapback mechanism included in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The argument is that the agreement has been inactive for seven years, with European nations halting their obligations following the United States’ withdrawal from the accord in 2018.
