Mikdad: U.S. support and UN deficit encourage “Israel” to continue its crimes

New York, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Faysal Mikdad, confirmed that the escalation of Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip and the repeated attacks on Syrian territory are part of a long series of acts of aggression and terrorism committed amid the inability of the United Nations to implement its resolutions due to American support.

This attitude of the Minister was expressed in a statement on Thursday, read on his behalf by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak, during the ministerial meeting of the Security Council dedicated to discussing the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.

Mikdad said in the statement: I am addressing the council today at a time when millions of people around the world are looking to the United Nations in the hope that it will shoulder its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, in response to the situation of deep resentment and deep pain that united the peoples of the world and the human conscience in the face of genocide and brutal atrocities committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against the Palestinian people.

The Israeli criminal escalation in Gaza and the accompanying repeated attacks against Syria and other Arab countries are not “self-defense” as some sponsors and protectors of “Israel” claim, but rather a continuation of a long series of massacres, acts of aggression and terrorism committed by the occupier for decades, assured the Minister.

He considered that the failure of Israeli war criminals to undermine the will of the Palestinian people led them to brutally bomb and commit genocide and war crimes, and try to explode the situation in the entire region, in a true way of implementing the law of the strongest or the law of the jungle, at the expense of the provisions of international law and the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.

Mikdad pointed out that this was coupled with the US administration’s deliberate paralysis of the Security Council and its standing against the will of the vast majority of council members in particular and UN members in general, through using its “veto” four times to prevent a ceasefire in Gaza, and giving war criminals a green light to continue committing massacres, destruction and displacement, pointing out that more than that is the group of Western countries encouraging Israel to continue slaughtering the Palestinian people.

The Foreign Minister reiterated Syria’s condemnation in the strongest terms of the Israeli aggression, which has so far led to the martyrdom of more than 35 thousand Palestinians and the injury of tens of thousands, mostly women and children, the killing of at least 240 humanitarian aid workers, including UN crews, the destruction of most of the buildings of the Gaza Strip, including hospitals, schools and other civilian facilities, as well as the threat to overrun the densely populated city of Rafah and hundreds of thousands of forcibly displaced people.

Syria holds the Israeli occupation authorities and its supporting countries fully responsible for the escalation and its repercussions, and calls on the United Nations to work to stop this aggression, lift the blockade, put an end to the systematic starvation of Palestinians, prevent forced displacement, and ensure accountability of “Israel” for its crimes, Mikdad said.

He calls for the implementation of the resolutions of international legitimacy and to enable the Palestinian people to enjoy their legitimate and inalienable national rights, especially their right to establish their independent state on their land, with Jerusalem as its capital, and to obtain full membership in the United Nations.

The Minister expressed Syria’s condemnation of the use of the United States “veto” against a draft resolution submitted by brotherly Algeria to grant Palestine full membership in the United Nations, and affirming that preventing the establishment of an independent sovereign Palestinian state will only contribute to prolonging the state of insecurity and instability caused by the Israeli occupation.

Mikdad pointed out that the crimes of the Israeli occupation in the Palestinian territories are inseparable from its crimes in the occupied Syrian Golan, as Israel, has been continuing its aggressive policies against our people in Golan for more than five decades, committing various violations of international law and international humanitarian law against them,

Israel continues its expansionist settlement policy aimed at perpetuating and prolonging the occupation and imposing demographic change by increasing the number of settlers, plundering natural resources, seizing land and establishing projects with serious implications for the lives and livelihoods of the people of the Golan.in addition, the occupation has used the land of the occupied Syrian Golan as a platform for launching repeated attacks on Syrian territory and targeting civilian installations and residential buildings, in grave violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, the relevant Security Council resolutions and the 1974 Separation of forces agreement, the Minister asserted

The Foreign Minister said in his statement that the Israeli occupation recently launched hysterical attacks that affected Damascus, Deir Ezzor, Aleppo and the southern region, led to the martyrdom of innocent civilians, injuring others and causing significant material damage.

Israeli contempt for international conventions and treaties reached the point of attacking diplomatic buildings, which was evident when bombing the Iranian consulate in Damascus and the death of all those inside, Iranians and Syrians, which constitutes a dangerous escalation. and a serious violation of international agreements and standards that guarantee the protection of diplomatic headquarters, he pointed out.

Mikdad assured that Israeli attacks always coincide with attacks by Daesh and Al-Nusra terrorists against civilians and soldiers, which confirms once again the interconnection and coordination between the Israeli occupation authorities and their terrorist tools.
