Major Captagon trafficking plot disrupted through Syrian-Iraqi cooperation

Syrian Narcotics Directorate, in cooperation and coordination with the General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control in Iraq, foiled an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of narcotics outside the country during a qualitative security operation in Homs province central western Syria.

The Syrian Ministry of Interior said in a statement Wednesday that the operation resulted in the arrest of two individuals, who were involved in managing an international drug trafficking network operating across borders.

Authorities seized approximately 400,000 Captagon pills, weighing about 65 kilograms, which had been prepared for smuggling abroad as part of the illicit operation.

The directorate had previously conducted a joint security operation with Iraq on Feb. 05 targeting an international drug-trafficking network, which led to the seizure of about 300,000 Captagon pills and the arrest of two internationally wanted suspects.
