Maduro’s VP appointed interim president of Venezuela

A Venezuelan constitutional body has tasked the country’s vice president with assuming presidential duties on an interim basis.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that Venezuela’s Supreme Constitutional Court has instructed Delcy Rodríguez, Vice President of President Nicolás Maduro, to temporarily assume the powers of the presidency.

Meanwhile, Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that in the absence of Nicolás Maduro, who has been detained in the United States, it recognizes Rodríguez as Venezuela’s transitional president.

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry also stated that Latin American and Caribbean countries will hold an extraordinary meeting to determine a unified position regarding the US attack on Venezuela.
