Iran’s Foreign Minister Decries US Resumption of Nuclear Testing as Global Threat

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has expressed concern following Washington's declaration to restart nuclear weapons testing, describing the decision as a backward and irresponsible action.

In a statement released on Thursday, Araghchi criticized Washington for changing the name of its “Department of Defense” to the “Department of War,” condemning the United States as a “nuclear-armed bully.”

The Iranian foreign minister has accused Trump of demonizing Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and issuing threats of additional strikes on the country’s safeguarded nuclear facilities, actions they claim are in clear violation of international law.

He criticized the United States for its persistent censure of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, highlighting the simultaneous resumption of American atomic weapons tests, which he argues are in breach of international law.

Araghchi declared that the United States represents the world’s most significant proliferation risk, asserting that the revival of nuclear testing presents a grave danger to global peace and security.

He called on the international community to come together in holding the United States accountable for its role in normalizing the spread of nuclear weapons, describing the announcement of renewed testing as a backward and irresponsible decision.

On Wednesday, Trump claimed that Washington’s nuclear stockpile is the largest globally, attributing this prominence to the updates and renovations undertaken during his administration.

Trump has openly acknowledged the devastating capabilities of nuclear weapons, expressing a clear reluctance towards the necessity of testing. He remarked, “I hated to do it, but had no choice,” highlighting the difficult decision-making involved.

He detailed that in response to nuclear advancements in other nations, he had instructed the newly designated Department of War to commence nuclear testing, declaring that this process would commence without delay.

In June, Trump once more put forward the discredited assertions that Iran is actively pursuing a nuclear weapons program.

In response, Rafael Grossi, the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that there is no indication that Iran is engaging in a nuclear weapons program.

Rafael Grossi acknowledged Iran’s assertions, which have been consistently reported by the UN nuclear agency in its official documents.
