Iran‑US talks ‘good opportunity’ to resolve nuclear issue: President Pezeshkian

President Masoud Pezeshkian says the indirect talks between Washington and Tehran present a good opportunity for a “mutually acceptable” resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue.
He made the remarks during a ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Tehran, with foreign ambassadors in attendance.
“The new round of nuclear negotiations, which has begun in Oman with the help and support of our neighbors, is a good opportunity for a just, rational, fair, and mutually acceptable resolution of the issue,” the president said.
He noted that Iran seeks guarantees for its enrichment rights under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the lifting of sanctions, expressing hope that the other side sets aside excessive demands to allow a desired outcome.
“Our message to the world is clear: Iran is a country that keeps its promises, provided that it sees honesty and adherence to commitments from the opposite side,” he said.
He also said dialogue was a sustainable path to face regional and global challenges.
The Iranian chief executive added that Iran’s foreign policy is defined on the basis of dignified interaction.
Tehran, Pezeshkian said, welcomes any negotiations that are based on international law, dignity and respect for national sovereignty, on an equal footing and consistent with the win-win principle.
The latest Iran–US indirect negotiations were held in Muscat, Oman, on February 6, following weeks of escalating tensions caused by a US military buildup in the region and threats of military action against Iran.
Foreign Abbas Minister Araghchi, who led the Iranian delegation, described the talks as a “good start,” saying both sides intend to continue the discussions.
The Iranian foreign minister says the new round of indirect nuclear talks with the US was a good beginning and can be continued.
In 2025, Tehran and Washington held five rounds of Oman-mediated nuclear negotiations before the Israeli regime derailed the diplomatic efforts by launching a war of aggression in June, which was later joined by the US.
The illegal US-Israeli assault killed at least 1,064 people in Iran, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians, between June 13 and 27.
Additionally, in his remarks, Pezeshkian said Iran extends a hand of friendship to all the countries that seek sincere cooperation with Tehran.
He also highlighted Iran’s capabilities in the economy, transportation, and knowledge-based industries as areas for multilateral cooperation with other countries, including neighbors and regional states.
“Iran’s priority is enhancing cooperation with aligned countries and emerging powers that seek to strengthen multilateralism and respect international law in their ties.”
