Iran Condemns Zionist Aggression Against Global Sumud Flotilla as ‘Terrorism, Blatant Violation of International Law’

The Foreign Ministry has strongly criticized the actions of the Israeli regime against the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international effort aiming to challenge Tel Aviv's extensive blockade of the Gaza Strip.

In a statement released on Thursday, spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei condemned the act as “a flagrant breach of international law and an act of terrorism.”

He lauded the humanitarian initiatives of the flotilla’s activists and grassroots organizations from around the world, acknowledging their solidarity with the Palestinian people and efforts to challenge the harsh blockade.

A number of vessels from a fleet consisting of 50 boats were previously intercepted by the Israeli navy as they neared the coastal enclave.

A group of activists have been detained while the communication capabilities of their vessels were disrupted to hinder participants from live-streaming the incident.

The aggression occurred in the context of the regime’s ongoing October 2023 conflict against Gaza, characterized by its genocidal actions utilizing a siege to exacerbate suffering and increase casualties.

Baghaei emphasized that the persistent ethnic cleansing and killing of innocent civilians in Gaza underscores the legal, moral, and humanitarian obligation of all governments to intervene and hold those responsible for the atrocities accountable.
