Imam Ayatollah Khamenei Declares Iran-US Tensions Inherent
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed, has stated that the discord between Tehran and Washington is "intrinsic" and stems from a fundamental conflict of interests. He cautioned that cooperation with the US could only be conceivable if it halts support for Israel, removes military bases from the region, and stops interference in Iran’s internal affairs.

On the eve of November 4, recognized as “Student Day and the National Day of Fight Against Global Arrogance,” Ayatollah Khamenei delivered a speech to thousands of students and the families of war martyrs in Tehran. The gathering was to commemorate the anniversary of the 1979 US Embassy takeover in Tehran, which he described as a significant event that shaped history and national identity.
“The inherent conflict between the Islamic Republic and the United States stems from a fundamental clash of interests between the two nations. According to him, only if the United States were to fully terminate its support for the Zionist regime, dismantle its military bases, and cease its interference, could any American overtures for cooperation with Iran be contemplated—not immediately, but at a later date.”
He characterized the 1979 embassy takeover as a dual event, marking both a “day of pride and victory” and an unveiling of the true nature of the US government.
He stated that the takeover of the US Embassy exposed the authentic character of the United States government and unveiled the true essence of the Islamic Revolution.
The Leader attributed the origins of US-Iranian tensions to the 1953 coup that resulted in the ousting of Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh. He stated that, despite public appearances of support, the United States collaborated with Britain to orchestrate Mossadegh’s downfall.
He stated that while publicly expressing approval of Mossadegh, the Americans, in collaboration with the British, orchestrated a covert coup that toppled the national government and reinstated the ousted Shah.
Ayatollah Khamenei rejected the idea that anti-American slogans such as “Death to America” were the cause of American animosity.
He stated that the United States’ conflict with the Islamic Republic is fundamentally a conflict of interests, rather than a matter of slogans.
He stated that the 1979 embassy seizure was originally intended to be a short-term, symbolic gesture reflecting public anger. However, it uncovered more profound US schemes against the Revolution.
According to him, the students discovered documents indicating that the embassy served as a hub for conspiratorial activities against the Revolution.
He dismissed US efforts for collaboration as insignificant, criticizing Washington’s ongoing support for Israel.
Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized the importance for students to enhance their understanding of Iran’s political history and contemporary challenges, bolster scientific acumen, and advance military capabilities. He stressed that this approach is vital in showcasing Iran as a resilient nation, impervious to subjugation by any external powers.
