Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Sheikh Naim Qassem, is scheduled to deliver a speech later on Monday, addressing the latest developments.
Sheikh Qassem is scheduled to deliver an address at a memorial service honoring the late prominent Lebanese cleric, Sayyed Abbas Ali Al-Moussawi, who passed away last week.
The event is scheduled to commence at 16:00 local Beirut time at the headquarters of the Lebanese Association of Arts, Rissalat, situated in the Dahiyeh area of Beirut’s southern suburb.
Tensions have escalated in Lebanon recently following the Lebanese Government’s approval earlier this month of “objectives” aligned with a US initiative to disarm Hezbollah, amid pressure from both the United States and Israel.
The cabinet session on August 7 was preceded by another meeting on August 5, during which the Lebanese Government mandated the Lebanese Army to develop a plan to consolidate all weapons under state control by the end of the year.
The Lebanese government is experiencing significant pressure from the United States, a primary supporter of Israel, to address and resolve the issue of Hezbollah’s disarmament.
In a recent address marking the occasion of Arbaeen, Sheikh Qassem emphasized that the Resistance remains steadfast in retaining its arms, citing ongoing Israeli occupation and aggression as the driving reasons.
