Haifa’s ‘Rocket Tower’ Remains Damaged After Iranian Missile Strike, Prosecutors Operate from Cafés: Report

Five months following the Iranian missile strike on Haifa's "Rocket Tower" amid Israel's 12-day conflict with Iran,

On June 20, a missile strike amid the conflict with Iran inflicted significant internal damage on the Rocket Tower, necessitating the evacuation of all tenants until repairs are finalized.

The Haifa District Prosecutor’s Office, a key hub for addressing serious criminal cases in Israel, was among the entities affected by the displacement.

Since that time, prosecutors report they have been functioning under improvised conditions, lacking access to case files, printers, and even a photocopier.

An attorney remarked to local media, noting that it amuses them when individuals interpret headlines about the “collapse of the rule of law” as mere political skirmishes between the attorney general and the government.

An individual expressed that those seeking a firsthand look at the breakdown of legal order should visit their location, noting it as the busiest office in Israel for murder cases. Remarkably, the office lacks essential resources, such as a photocopier, which underscores the gravity of the situation.

Amid ongoing investigations and court proceedings, numerous individuals have turned to remote work, utilizing home offices or local cafés to create makeshift shared workspaces.

Prosecutors have been relocated to a different building, but face a shortage of desks and computers, according to one official. As a result, they are operating in shifts, with those scheduled on a given day securing a desk while their colleagues work from cafes, courthouse corridors, or from home when feasible.

The situation has escalated tensions between the prosecutors and their union, prompting them to hold a vote on secession. The action is driven by feelings of “total neglect by the national committee and its chair.”

On June 13, Israel launched a series of airstrikes targeting the Islamic Republic, backed by an exceptional level of military and intelligence support from the United States.

Iran’s Armed Forces have initiated an extensive series of defensive maneuvers in response to recent developments.

Subsequently, they initiated swift and relentless counteroffensives, executing precise attacks on key nuclear, military, and industrial sites located deep within the occupied Palestinian territories.

Operation True Promise III saw the deployment of a multitude of ballistic missiles, including several supersonic and multi-warhead variants. Additionally, the operation made extensive use of armed drones in a sustained offensive.

The attacks targeted central Tel Aviv, recognized as the economic center; Haifa, a vital deep-water port; and Be’er Sheva, a crucial area for modern development and technology within Israel.

Under mounting pressure from retaliatory actions, the regime was compelled to pursue a ceasefire after 12 days. This move came despite having some of the United States’ most sophisticated missile defense systems ready to counter incoming Iranian attacks.
