Global Outcry Erupts Following Fatal Attack on Shia Mosque in Syria

A deadly explosion occurred at the Ali Bin Abi Talib Mosque during Friday prayers, as a militant organization known as Saraya Ansar al-Sunna took responsibility for the assault.
The office of UN Secretary-General António Guterres released a statement in which he “unequivocally” denounced the bombing.
The Secretary General reaffirms that assaults on civilians and religious sites are intolerable. He emphasizes the necessity for the perpetrators to be identified and held accountable.
France has strongly denounced the “abhorrent terrorist act,” characterizing it as a calculated effort to destabilize Syria and undermine its transitional authorities.
Nations and regional organizations throughout West Asia have also condemned the attack in Homs.
**Saudi Arabia**
The Saudi Foreign Ministry has unequivocally rejected acts of terrorism and extremism, as well as the targeting of mosques and places of worship and the intimidation of innocent civilians. The ministry expressed its solidarity with Syria amid what it described as a “great tragedy.”
**United Arab Emirates**
The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement emphatically condemning the recent acts of terrorism. The statement underscored the nation’s steadfast opposition to any form of violence and terrorism that seeks to destabilize security and stability.
Lebanon
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the assault and reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to supporting Syria in its fight against terrorism and in its endeavors to establish a state rooted in freedom and democracy.
Jordan’s Foreign Ministry has issued a strong condemnation of the assault, expressing solidarity with the Syrian populace and government. The ministry emphasized its firm rejection of all manifestations of violence and terrorism.
**Turkey**
The Turkish Foreign Ministry has unequivocally condemned the recent mosque bombing, labeling it a blatant crime. In a strong statement, the ministry expressed its deep condemnation of the attack.
Qatar and Iraq’s foreign ministries, along with the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, released statements strongly denouncing the terrorist attack.
The extremist organization Saraya Ansar al-Sunna has issued threats of additional attacks within Syria. The group came into prominence following the removal of Bashar al-Assad from power last year and has previously asserted responsibility for a church attack in Damascus in June.
The Foreign Ministry of Syria’s transitional government has strongly condemned the recent attack in Homs, describing it as a cowardly act and a flagrant violation of human and moral principles.
