Georges Abdallah to Al-Manar: Resistance a Vital Imperative Against Occupation

Lebanese activist Georges Abdallah, a prominent pro-Palestine figure who spent four decades in French prisons, stated on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation justifies the resistance’s actions. He further advocated for the arming of Lebanon’s military forces.

In an exclusive interview with Al-Manar, Abdallah remarked that assertions positioning the United States and France as allies of Lebanon would only hold true if they provide arms to the Lebanese Army.

In a statement to Al-Manar, the pro-Palestine activist, recently released last month, expressed strong endorsement of backing provided to the military establishment, emphasizing that the resistance would be the first to commend such support.

A statement was made indicating that while the Lebanese Army aims to protect Lebanon, it currently lacks the necessary resources to effectively fulfill this mission. The remarks also highlighted a perspective that the Arab approach appears to be conceding to Israel.

Abdallah emphasized that what is often termed “armed violence” is historically considered essential for confronting occupation and its mechanisms, referring to actions of resistance.

The activist referred to individuals advocating for the disarmament of the resistance as “crows.”

In this context, he recalled the previous calls for disarming the Palestinian resistance within the refugee camps.

Massacres during that period resulted in the loss of thousands of civilian lives, including those of children, women, and the elderly.

Abdallah, speaking to Al-Manar, articulated that a call for the resistance to disarm signifies the enemy’s encroaching presence on the nation’s doorstep.

Concerns were raised regarding the Lebanese State’s effectiveness in addressing a range of critical issues, including Israeli incursions in southern Lebanon, maritime boundary disputes, and the nationwide power outages.

For decades, the Lebanese military has remained largely disarmed, as political leaders—embodied by the roles of the presidency and the premiership—have opted for a course of concessions with adversaries, potentially compromising the national interest.

Abdallah emphasized the existence of only two possible courses of action: confronting the occupying force or yielding to its demands.

He expressed confidence in the ability of the resistance to safeguard its armaments, while also conveying trust in the Lebanese military institution.

The Lebanese Army is making concerted efforts to safeguard the nation of Lebanon, even amidst significant limitations in resources and capabilities.
