General Vahidi Appointed as Iran’s Armed Forces Deputy Chief by Supreme Leader

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has named Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi as the new deputy chief of the Armed Forces. This appointment is intended to enhance coordination in light of evolving strategic defense dynamics.

Gen. Vahidi, a longstanding figure within the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), has occupied significant military and governmental roles throughout the last forty years.

He held the position of commander of the Quds Force from 1988 to 1997, subsequently served as deputy defense minister, and later assumed the role of minister of defense and logistics.

He has led Iran’s political, defense, and security commissions within the Expediency Discernment Council and played a pivotal role in the Fifth Development Plan. Additionally, he has headed the defense-security commission of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations.

Vahidi possesses a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering and has pursued advanced studies in strategic disciplines. His career commenced as the deputy of intelligence within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) from 1985 to 1988. Additionally, he has held the position of Iran’s interior minister.

The appointment occurs as Iran endeavors to strengthen military coordination among its armed forces in response to evolving regional and domestic security challenges.
