Enemies seeking to exclude Iran from sea corridors

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani has warned that hostile countries are seeking malicious strategies aimed at restricting international maritime corridors and sidelining Iran’s access to them.

Speaking at a specialized conference held at Amirkabir University of Technology, on the draft of Iran’s maritime development blueprint, Iran’s navy commander called for greater focus on the country’s access to global seas.

“The enemy’s main strategy today is to limit the corridors and monopolize their use through excluding Iran,” he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the navy chief emphasized the scientific and technological importance of the sea, noting that maritime development requires its related science, tools, and technologies, and the country’s comprehensive maritime development document also has comprehensive capacity in this regard.

It is necessary that the strategic and geopolitical dimensions of the sea and the role of corridors should be taken into serious consideration, he noted.

The commander noted that while national planning documents have consistently highlighted the North-South Corridor, insufficient attention has been paid to the East-West maritime routes.

The Navy chief also called for more insistence on the development of maritime logistics hubs in the national maritime development document.
