Colani: If Iran had been defeated, Israel would have entered Damascus, and I would have returned to Idlib.

HTS leader Colani stated, "If Iran had been defeated, the Israeli army would have entered Damascus today, and I would have returned to Idlib."

Beirut Review ,  which closely follows Lebanese domestic politics , reported, citing reliable sources, that the meeting between Lebanese Druze politician Walid Jumblatt and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) leader al-Jolani took place in a very positive atmosphere.

The strategic assessments and regional equations expressed by Colani during the meeting offer clues about a new era in relations between the two countries.

Strategic balance and the emphasis on Iran.

HTS leader Colani, in his analysis of regional power balances, illustrated the critical importance of Iran’s position for Syria’s security with a striking example.

Colani stated, “If Iran had suffered a defeat, the Israeli army would have entered Damascus today; and in that case, I would probably have to head towards Idlib,” drawing attention to the interconnected security architecture of regional actors.

A new chapter with Hezbollah and Lebanon.

One of the most noteworthy aspects of the meeting was Syria’s new approach towards Lebanon.

Colani took a clear stance on his past dealings with political structures in Lebanon, stating, “I have completely closed the chapter on my conflict with Hezbollah and the Shiite community in Lebanon.”

Jolani emphasized that Syria’s new governance model does not involve any pursuit of revenge, and also underlined that they have no intention of interfering in Lebanon’s internal affairs.
